BABYLON LIES

For my final University project I created a fashion brand. The brief was to challenge and oppose the issue with Islamophobia in America.

The brief was initiated when Donald Trump, president of USA, had placed a block on muslim people coming into America. To battle this issue, my research led me to find the best rebellions/anarchy movements were when people would gather. Both oppressed and on-watchers, it was clear to flip the phrase ‘divide and conquer’ into ‘we stand together as one’.

The brand was a marriage of western fashion and islamic sacred geometry. The connotations of oneness were to be easily recognisable.

I began by creating my own geometrical patterns through drawing and vectorising the patterns. The use of green is intended to represent the Earth and unity.

The stigma with usage of a triangle in fashion caught my attention. People were presuming connection to the Illuminati (infatuated as a secret society of the most powerful), the ‘societies’ usage of the triangle is best seen as ‘the all seeing eye’. This is commonly found on the
US dollar. Babylon Lies, a rebellious brand, was then to use triangles as a defence to exclusivity and become empowerment to the gathering of human beings.

Using screen printing methods I was able to create the fashion pieces, and using silk screen printing I was able to create the inner lining for the jacket, where I collaborated with a fashion design student to help stitch together the jacket, and other accessories (as seen in the photography below on models).

ANIMATION

Meditation

I had created a stop-motion animation to visually display the experiences documented in my research. The piece was presented with a sofa and played on loop, projected onto a screen in the darkest area of the exhibition space. The audience ranged in age and this resulted in an obvious result being the more life experience the individual had, the longer they were remaining at my space. Therefore success was found because people were meditatively locked into my space at the exhibition.

DREAMS OF A DREAMER

After becoming highly skilled with photo manipulation in photoshop, I began contemplating the style with movement and sound. This is the first successful video piece I was able to create. With no purpose other than to show off my skills in video and motion.

DIMENSIONS EXHIBITION

This brief was to design and brand a campaign for the exhibition.
Dimensions exhibition was to celebrate the variety and range of
young artists and designers alike.

Here I had designed the logo, animation, invitations, posters,
brand guidelines and awarding certificates.

The logo was to connote the different areas of design that were
being judged, each represented by their respected colour; the
accompanying designer had researched the relative colours for
each area of design.
